Ready to become a Lead Climber at Hardrock?

Our Lead Assessments are for experienced lead climbers who have either attended a Hardrock Lead Climbing Course or for people who have previous experience lead climbing and want to be able to lead climb at our Hardrock venues.

- To attend a lead assessment you must be over 18 years old (unless approved by the Hardrock Climbing head coach)

- Please aim to arrive at least 5-10 minutes prior to your booked time so you are prepared and ready to complete the multiple-choice written test and to warm up prior to climbing.

- When doing the Lead Assessment, you must bring a climbing partner who either has their pass or who is wanting to complete their assessment at the same time (they must also book in if completing the Lead Assessment).

- For the Lead Assessment, you will need to bring your own padded sit harness, karabiner and rope; details here.

- The Black Diamond ATC Pilot is the only belay device permitted for lead at Hardrock. A Black Diamond ATC Pilot may be borrowed in venue free of charge.

- To complete the Lead Assessment, you need to have your Hardrock Top Rope Assessment already completed The Lead Assessment is free of charge, although you will still be required to pay a regular climbing entry fee. (You can continue climbing after the assessment).

- People who have attended a Hardrock Lead Climbing Course will not need to pay an entry fee to attend their first assessment attempt following the course.
